Alpha-ESS has teamed up with its exclusive partner SunPower Innovations to deliver a major off-grid solar project for the Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine (FOCOS) that will reduce energy bills by 60% allowing for more patient care.
The FOCOS orthopedic hospital was built in 2012 in Accra, the capital of Ghana. The state-of-the-art facility has 50 beds, and offers its services to adult and pediatric patients in need of orthopedic care.
It specializes in complex spinal and joint surgery.
The 700kWh hybrid solar panel installation with 1MWh of battery storage is considered by experts to be the largest in Africa for hospitals.
During the day the solar panels provide electricity for the medical equipment and the rest of the hospital. The surplus is stored in the battery system. At night the battery delivers its electricity to the consumers and the battery storage system guarantees an uninterrupted power supply 24/7.
Alpha-ESS' monitoring and maintenance platform, the AlphaCloud system, allows customers to monitor the system in real time via web pages or mobile App's, set functions remotely, perform software upgrades on the inverters, EMS or BMS, etc.
